Some have described me as “unwavering” when it comes to principles. Others say that I exhibit the trait of "loyalty to a fault" or that I am "utterly relentless” when pursuing an objective. As your attorney, I promise to be a loyal advocate and to be unwavering in the pursuit of your goals. I am a zealous advocate that does not shy away from conflict and litigation. I believe that the strongest weapon that an attorney can have is knowledge of his case. I will aggressively prepare your case for litigation while attempting to resolve the issues on favorable terms - a kind of "peace through strength" approach to the practice of law.

What do other lawyers say?

"In this day of large law firms and multi-million dollar budgets for state and federal governments, don't ever forget that ONE dedicated and talented criminal defense lawyer took on the entire state of Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Attorney General's Office and beat the hell out of them.  Who says the days of the solo practitioner and Lone Wolf are gone?  Not me."

What to do if Arrested Or Charged  |  Minors & DUI  |  FAQ's about DUI

"I have been stopped for DUI!  What should I do???"

The first and best advise that you could have been given would to have not driven if you believed that you may be intoxicated.  Unfortunately, we are well past that now.  The following is not intended as advice for someone that is intending to attempt to "skirt" the law.  They are however, important things for you to know should you find yourself in this position.  Tulsa DUI lawyer, John Dunn, has some important advice regarding a DUI charge:

  • Do not take the field sobriety exam.  There is NO requirement that you take a field sobriety test.  By cooperating in the test, you have given the officer evidence of your balance, coordination, and physical appearance of intoxication.

  •  Do not testify against yourself.  Typically, when a police officer is dealing with someone he believes is intoxicated, he will ask, "How much have you had to drink?"  If you answer, that statement CAN be used against you in court.  The less you say, the better off you are.

  •  Do not "act out."  Alcohol often has the affect of lowering one's inhibitions.  People who have been drinking will sometimes say things or act in ways that they would never act otherwise.  When you are in the presence of the police, you should ALWAYS conduct yourself as though a camera crew were watching your behavior with the intention of showing the video in court.  Most patrol cars are equipped with a "dash camera" and the things you do and say on a traffic stop could come back to haunt you in court.

  • The Intoxilyzer Test  If you are arrested, the officer will ask you to take "the state's test".  If you have a BAC greater than the legal limit, that evidence can be used in court to prove your guilt.  If the result of the test is 0.15 or greater, you will be required to have an ignition interlock device placed on your car for 18 months following the six month revocation.  On the other hand, if you refuse the state's test, you will have denied the state access to evidence of your BAC, but you will face the near certainty of being forced to have an an ignition interlock device placed on your car for 18 months following the six month revocation.. Contact John Dunn, a Tulsa DUI defense attorney, for more information on the Intoxilyer test and relative Oklahoma legislation.

  • If you are arrested for DUI, you will be held in jail for some pre-determined period of time, depending on the arresting agency's policy.  This is normally between eight an twelve hours.  When you bond out you MUST act quickly!

As an Oklahoma attorney, I will obtain the arrest reports, examine the evidence, and evaluate the case against you in light of my experience as a defense attorney and my past experience as an officer that is both SFST trained and an Intoxilyzer supervisor.  I will use that experience to defend you.
